Bhagyashree (born Shrimant Rajkumari Bhagyashree Raje Patwardhan on 23 February 1969) is an Indian film and television actress.

Bhagyashree hails from the royal Marathi family of Sangli in Maharashtra.[8] Her father is Vijay Singhrao Madhavrao Patwardhan, a descendant of the Maharaja of Sangli.[9] Her full name is Shrimant Rajkumari Bhagyashree Raje Patwardhan. Her mother's name is Rajlaxmi. She is the eldest of three daughters, the other two being Madhuvanti and Purnima.

She started her acting career with Kachhi Dhoop - a television serial by Amol Palekar. It was based on Louisa Mary Alcott's Little Women. Her rendezvous with acting happened by chance when next door neighbor Amol Palekar, a renowned actor-director, requested her to step in and act in his serial Kacchi Dhoop as the actress who had been signed on had abandoned the serial abruptly. The serial did well and later on she had roles in Honi Anhoni and Kisse Miya Biwi Ke.

She is best known for her role in the 1989 blockbuster film Maine Pyaar Kiya with Salman Khan.[10]

After marriage, she acted in three films: Peepat's Qaid Main Hai Bulbul, K.C. Bokadia's Tyagi and Mahendra Shah's Payal all opposite her husband Himalaya in 1992. She also acted with Avinash Wadhawan in Ghar Aaya Mera Pardesi (1993). This was her last film in the 90s and she took a break from films for rest of this decade.she made her Telugu debut in the film Yuvaratna Rana (1998).

She returned to films in the 2001 film Hello Girls. She later appeared in Janani (2006), Humko Deewana Kar Gaye (2006) and Red Alert: The War Within (2008). After a gap of several years, she made a comeback to television with Aandhi Jasbaton Ki, where she played a politician. She was also seen in Didi Ka Dulha, a comedy serial on national broadcaster Doordarshan and a telefilm where she plays a blind person. She made her debut in Marathi films with the romantic comedy Zhak Marli Baiko Keli in June 2009. In 2014, she would make her comeback to entertainment space with TV serial Laut Aao Trisha to be aired on Life OK.[11]

She is the promoter of a media company Shrishti Entertainment with her husband.

Bhagyashree made her acting debut in a television series Kachchi Dhoop (1983). Her debut movie Maine Pyar Kiya opposite Salman Khan made her very popular across India. Her career took a down turn after she started insisting on doing roles only opposite her husband Himalaya Dassani. Since then she only acted in television serials.

She also acted in the Parag Sarees commercial, which was a combination of singing and dancing. (It contained her saying in different Indian languages that people like Parag Saree. She made a comeback to films in Humko Deewana Kar Gaye in 2006.

Currently she is involved in the teleserial Kagaz Ki Kashti, which is being produced by her husband Himalaya Dasani.

She has two children and is pregnant with her third. She insists that her family comes before any project.

Personal Life:

She is someone who rejected everything because she had found true love and had got married to her love. Everything about Bhagyashree was quite filmi but only thing that made the difference was that these were happening to a film star. She could have the sun and the moon as well as the stars but she opted for the mountain, Himalaya, her husband.

Bhagyashree made her sensational debut in 1990 against Salman Khan in Sooraj Barjatya's super duper hit film 'Maine Pyar Kiya'. This movie become such a saleable one that it broke many a record on the way. The stars - Bhagyashree and Salman Khan - could not believe their good luck. Salman kept signing many more films but Bhagyashree decided to quit everything and settle down for marital bliss.

Nothing was as heartening as this decision of hers. Millions and millions of her admirers were shattered and heartbroken. Nothing deterred her decision of not coming back. But one fine day, she made this unusual decision of working with only her dear hubby Himalaya Dasani. The directors and producers could not believe this madness but tried out that also. This proved to be quite expensive for them as all the films with Bhagyashree and Himalaya, like 'Qaid Mein Hain Bulbul' and 'Payal' fared miserably on the boxoffice. It proved to be a bad gamble. Bhagyashree now has to content herself with a couple of TV serials and there is news of her coming back to the big screen against Akshaye Khanna. Had Bhagyashree decided to use her senses, she would be as saleable as her co-star Salman Khan. But, everyone has but one destiny!

Bhagyashree (Bhagyashree Patwardhan) made her debut in the Hindi movie, the Rajshree Productions Mega Hit Blockbuster Maine Pyar Kiya (she was introduced as Bhagyashree only), released in December 1989, paired opposite Salman Khan, which we still love watching again and again today also.

It was her role of simplicity, a good daughter, and a true lover, which stole the hearts of people. Her actual name, Shrimant Rajkumari Bhagyashree Raje Patwardhan, was born on 23rd Feb 1969 to the royal family of Patwardhans of Miraj, Maharashtra.

Her father is the Raja (King) of Sangli. She has two more sisters, Madhuvanti and Purnima. Bhagyashree made her acting debut in television sector with the serial Kacchi Dhoop directed by Amol Palekar, and then acted in Telugu film Maharatna Rana. Though she gained a lot of popularity from Maine Pyar Kiya, she could not accept any other big offers due to her engagement and fixed marriage to Himalay Deshmukh, her childhood friend. It is learned that she was not allowed to act in films opposite anybody except her fiance, Himalay. They did two or three films together but the films did not run well at box office. But finally had to quit the film industry as she wed her fiance Himalay Deshmukh. She has two children from her marriage.

Some of her films after the success of Maine Pyar Kiya, are Ghar Aya mera Pardesi (1990), Paayal, Tyagi, Qaid Mei hai bulbul (1992), She did make a short return to films but did only a couple like Maa Santoshi Maa in 2003 and Humko Deewana Kar Gaye in 2006. She also did a TV commercial for Parag Sarees. Her filmography (other than MPK) also includes Baru -The Wonder Kid (2010) as Artiste, Red Alert (2010).

Maine Pyar Kiya fame Bhagyashree was born in an elite family of Sangli (Maharastra) -the family which had ruled Sangli for a couple of years.

She was born on 23rd of February 1969. She lives in Mumbai at present. She is married (to Himalaya Dasani and has two daughters.
